两者都要教，普通话是国家普及的，不管走到哪里都能用的到，给孩子一个从小说普通话的习惯，但是方言让孩子还要懂，最起码孩子知道自己家乡的话，还能说上几句，别人说还能听懂，
其实方言根本不用教，我家孩子就是从开始上学起，我们当着孩子的面都说的是普通话。虽然不标准。也是给孩子养成一个习惯。孩子没在家我们两个人时说的是方言。到现在孩子大了自然而然的方言也会说。不用刻意去教。其实在家以外的地方他们都会听到别人说方言。他们好奇心也强。自然也就学会一些。
我从小就给孩子教普通话，长大不用说学校也给教普通话，自然成习惯，虽然我是农村出身说的家乡话，但是孩子一直说的普通话，我想不管到哪里都给孩子教普通话，说普通话！
